Computing

Computing Rationale

At Banwell Primary School we know that computing prepares pupils to access jobs of the future and participate in a world where technological advancements are ever changing.  Computing can be hands on, it can help to develop resilience. It can advance problem solving skills and gives children access to the digital world.  We believe children need the skills, knowledge and confidence to access safely a range of digital equipment and software.  We know computing can engage, enthuse and inspire children and that technology promotes independent learning.

Computing at Banwell

The scheme we use is Teach Computing which “is built around an innovative progression framework where computing content has been organised into interconnected networks.”

The Computing curriculum is taught:

-        from years 1-6

-        as 6 units per year spread over 6 terms.

-        sequentially and is interconnected

-        by providing practical and theoretical sessions

-        in conjunction with additional online safety sessions using “Project Evolve”

Online Safety at Banwell

Keeping our pupils safe online is at the forefront of our minds at Banwell Primary School.  Therefore, we use the SWGFL Project Evolve which constantly updating its resources based on real world need.  We also cover online safety during our PSHE lessons. Teachers may also use other resources to guide them such as Jigsaw and UK Safer internet centre.

All staff of our staff are responsible for creating an environment to support pupils to feel safe and to feel empowered to keep themselves safe in the digital world.
